Licensed Practitioners

Training is divided into modules of four days or 36 contact hours. There will be four to five modules per year for three years culminating with the final exam. Advancement from one year to the next is dependent on the results of a proficiency exam which tests theoretical knowledge and practical application. The cost of each module is $1050 with full payment due ten days prior to class date. The Licensed Practitioner course includes in-depth study of the anatomy and neurology necessary for a full understanding of Equine Osteopathy.

Payment can be made with check, cash, or credit card. If you choose to use a credit card, a 3.25% convenience fee will be charged. The course fee is non-refundable, however is transferable to another class. Exceptions will be made only in extreme circumstances. Due to limited class size and availability, we encourage you to send full payment or a partial deposit of $500 as soon as possible to reserve your place in class. Payment is non-refundable after fifteen days before the first day of class.

In the course the following subjects will be treated: Anatomy, physiology, neurology, bio mechanics, osteopathy, and pathology. Ample attention will be given to exterior judgment, oral cavity, harness and saddle fit, and training. In every module, especially in the first year, special attention will be given to functional anatomy and physiology. The anatomy of the horse will be taught from skeleton structures present, and during the practical lessons on the horse. A dissection lab will also be scheduled once a year, and is required for course completion. The costs for the dissection labs will be $ 200,- each.

A typical class day will begin by 8:00am with four hours of interactive classroom education including Power Point presentations. A detailed course book will be provided for notes and reference.
Lunch is not provided, but a list of local restaurants within a short distance of the clinic will be provided in the course packet. Snacks and beverages are provided throughout the day, and a refrigerator and microwave are available in the classroom if you would like to bring your lunch.
The afternoon session will include a hands-on practical wet lab of training techniques. The small class size where the student/teacher ratio never exceeds fifteen to one facilitates learning and the opportunity for comfortable question and answer with both the instructor and other students.

Preceptorship Program: From the fourth module on, students can elect to observe Janek treating client’s horses starting at 5:30pm. This provides an opportunity to see techniques applied in a “live” client situation and to learn skills in client interaction.
